Maratea may not be a famous as its neighbors – Amalfi and Positano, but that does not mean it doesn’t have all the charm, minus the crowds and OTT glitz. Make no mistake though, bluest of blue ocean, dramatic cliffs and gorgeous green landscape is just as spectacular. It’s a perfect vacation destination for Italy aficionados, and for us “Princesses”, who earn for the richness and luxury of that slower-pace, Italian life.
The huge draw-cards at Hotel Santa Venere, are the private beach, restaurant and spa. These key elements separates this hotel from others and makes the extra travel down the coast so worth it.
The restaurant has an exceptional view, but its not designed to distract you from the food, in fact, its possible you may lose yourself in the taste of the food and almost forget about the view altogether – its just that good. Chef Gerardo Manisera, creates food experiences, which is a blend of traditional produce and with a result that is completely unique. Its is so simple, fresh and delicious – they don’t try make it something its not. Its coast Italian food done exceptionally well. Service is flawless and even better if you can speak a little Italian.
The Spa is a whole other world. You’ll have the choice of sauna, emotional showers, Turkish Bath, Sun Room, and Hydromassage in sea water. This all in addition to a long list of massage options. Try the Tibetan sound bowls and the reflexology for something centering, or goats milk cleansing bath for a completely nourishing bath that almost turns back time, well, for your skin anyway.
The private beach is heavenly. Its quiet and the water is crystal clear. There are rocks, but the hotel will provide you with water sandshoes – which are priceless. Maybe not so cool, but they’ll help you have walk on this pebble filled beach.
One idea to really get the full understanding of this awesome area, is to charter a small yacht for the day and sail around the gorgeous coastline – its worth it!
Maratea is amazing, an untapped luxury destination that I can’t wait to go back to. Make sure you spend at least 2-3 nights here and feel refreshed, revitalized and ready to face reality in the big bad city with a new lease on life!
